The Weary Solider

I am a weary soliderDaily fighting to fulfill the needs of patients.Hearing their complaints, anger, & frustrations... Wondering where is the joy???Wounded by their constant negativity.Yes, I am worn and tattered.Trying my hardest to help & still treated as the dirt they tread.Praying my positive energy & happiness transfers to enlighten their harden hearts.Every morning I gear myself up for the battles I will face.Wondering how people have become so cold towards their fellow man.Good morning, how are you, thank you, your welcome - phrases either heard with no response or are rarely in use. Trying to become accustomed to grunts, sighs, or emotionless responses.Scary to see hatred spread like wild fire. On the rarity when what we call speech and courtesy are used, I am shocked with delight. Has the art of being humane becoming a dying breed?I vow to keep smiling, greeting with every ounce I have left, and lending my hand perhaps to change the hearts of others. Living life now has become hard during our recent time, but keep your chins up and smile.... You will realize just making those steps will help you through your days in life and at work.... Spread this good Karma around :)

The Youngbloods - Get Together

Love is but the song we sing,

And fear's the way we die

You can make the mountains ring

Or make the angels cry

Know the dove is on the wing

And you need not know why

C'mon people now,

Smile on your brother

Ev'rybody get together

Try and love one another right now

Some will come and some will go

We shall surely pass

When the one that left us here

Returns for us at last

We are but a moments sunlight

Fading in the grass

C'mon people now,

Smile on your brother

Ev'rybody get together

Try and love one another right now

If you hear the song I sing,

You must understand

You hold the key to love and fear

All in your trembling hand

Just one key unlocks them both

It's there at your command

C'mon people now,

Smile on your brother

Ev'rybody get together

Try and love one another right now

Right nowRight now!

To erase or not to erase, that is the question

Today at work since there was no doctor, I decided to watch a movie to pass the sand in the hour glass. I decided to pull from my collection "Eternal Sunshine of the spotless mind." I love the type of movie that moves you to get the old rusty gears in your head to function. For me, this movie always makes me think about what if we could erase all the bad and stick with just the warm fuzzy moments. Leave out all the hurt, fear, tears, and anger. Would we be happier or would we just be empty shells of what was. Then thoughts come into play that if we did erase it all, where would we be? Most of the horrible things in my life have actually shaped this lump of clay into something more priceless. Through it all these memories have made me stronger, wiser, and compassionate. Everytime the rain pours the storm passes and a little sun does adventually shine through. What I have learned is to be thankful for all the good and the bad. Without those events in time we wouldn't be who we are today. There will be bumps ahead on this road we call life. I pray I greet each impass with the serenity to understand it leads to a bigger picture and to remember that patientce is a virtue.

Time to pause

Simple Abundance: A Daybook 0f Comfort And Joy

by Sarah Ban Breathnach

Harmony is the inner cadence of contentment we feel when the melody of
life is in tune. When somehow we're able to strike the right chord --
to balance the expectations of our families and our responsibilities in
the world on the one hand with our inner needs for spiritual growth and
personal expression on the other....

Usually, when the distractions of daily life deplete our energy, the
first thing we eliminate is the thing we need the most: quiet,
reflective time. Time to dream, time to think, time to contemplate
what's working and what's not, so that we can make changes for the
better....

Learn how to pause

Believe

What I Believe

by Michael Blumenthal

I believe there is no justice,
but that cottongrass and bunchberry
grow on the mountain.

I believe that a scorpion's sting
will kill a man,
but that his wife will remarry.

I believe that, the older we get,
the weaker the body,
but the stronger the soul.

I believe that if you roll over at night
in an empty bed,
the air consoles you.

I believe that no one is spared
the darkness,
and no one gets all of it.

I believe we all drown eventually
in a sea of our making,
but that the land belongs to someone else.

I believe in destiny.
And I believe in free will.

I believe that, when all
the clocks break,
time goes on without them.

And I believe that whatever
pulls us under,
will do so gently.

So as not to disturb anyone,
so as not to interfere
with what we believe in.

Routine

In Praise of Routine

By David Jacoby

What is it about my daily rituals? Why such pleasure in repetition?

Well, it occurs to me that I might just be practicing... being me.

Those cherished creaks in the old floorboards.

The precise angle of the winter sun cheering my kitchen.

Assembling ingredients for a dish I've made hundreds of times.

A novel position my cats have adopted, lost in their midday dreams.

Each nuance resonates with a kind of timeless wisdom, and I

realize that it is these humble putterings -- nothing fancier -- that have allowed me, finally, to know myself.

Persistence

Persistence

by Elbert Hubbard

Genius is only the power of making continuous efforts.

The line between failure and success is so fine that we

scarcely know when we pass it....

How many a man has thrown up his hands at a time

when a little more effort,

a little more patience,

would have achieved success?

As the tide goes out, so it comes clear in....

A little more persistence,

a little more effort,

and what seemed hopless failure

may turn to glorious success.

There is no failure except in no longer trying.

There is no defeat except from within,

no really insurmountable barrier save

our own inherent weakness of purpose.

Another Independant Buisness Closes

I was very saddened to see the store "Stitch To Wear" recently close. Stitch to Wear was a fashionable clothing store that sold either trendy finds or creations of their own. At the buy counter they hand picked the most desirable items from the public and resold them. A lot of the clothing creations at Stitch to Wear was designed by local fashion designer Enrique Luis. He created original designs for any occasion. It was a cool inventive place to find vintage items, old trends, and stitched creations brought to life. Unfortunately most of these individual hot spots are closing due to they are not a retail chain. BOOOOOO!!!! Creativity these days seems to either dimmer or die. I know times are hard, but why do we have to sacrifice our art forms for the expensive thoughtless pieces of crap we gladly wear or purchase. I keep searching for new upcoming places to shop. I try to support all the local artists, craft makers, food growers, and fashion designers in San Antonio. I live in an area that has a lot of independent businesses that contribute to these forms. It is great to buy outside the cold retail death box. I drove past it this morning and surprise it is now a pinata store. Are we in that dire shortage of mutilating candy stuffed characters???? I guess the answer is what it is.

Cornucopia

To begin with my first blog, I will research where cornucopia came from. History is our life blood of where we come from. It is important to learn from our past in order to discover our future.

In Greek mythology, Amalthea was a goat who raised Zeus on her breast milk, in a cave, on mount Idi of Crete. Her horn was accidentally broken off by Zeus while playing together. The god Zeus, in remorse, gave her back her horn with supernatural powers, which would give the person in possession whatever he or she wished for. This gave rise to the legend of the cornucopia. The original depictions were of the goat's horn filled with fruits and flowers: deities, especially Fortuna, were depicted with the horn of plenty. The cornucopia was also a symbol for a woman's fertility. The story is said to be a predecessor of the Unicorn and the Holy Grail stories.

In modern depictions, the cornucopia is typically a hollow, horn-shaped wicker basket typically filled with various kinds of festive fruit and vegetables. In North America, the cornucopia has come to be associated with Thanksgiving and the harvest. Cornucopia is also the name of the annual November Wine and Food celebration in Whistler, British Columbia, Canada. Two cornucopias are seen in the flag and state seal of Idaho. There is also one seen in the state seal of North Carolina, the state seal of New Jersey, the coat of arms of Colombia, Panama, Peru and Venezuela, and the Coat of Arms of the State of Victoria, Australia, symbolizing prosperity.

I hope to share my cornucopia of diversity with all who read. Open our minds to new possibilities. Whether it be through art, fashion, music, or eloquent speech I hope to open new doors of discovery.
